Sheet Materials: All about basics of versatile Wood

Sheet materials are basically wood boards. Its applications are seen everywhere in one form or other. Flooring, wall sheathing, Roofing and furniture all comprise of sheet materials.

Some basic typologies:

Plywood: Best known and leading material for last 200 years. Majorly used everywhere because of its strength and resistance to fire, chemicals etc.

MDF: Medium Density Fiber Board are very popular nowadays due to their durability and cost effectiveness. Smooth surface of it make the perfect for cutting and detailed designs. Ideal for using at decorative projects.

Drywall: Often heard as wallboard. Gypsum panels are most popular and widely used drywall.

Chipboard: One of the widest use materials. Often called as particle board or low-density fiberboard. Might be used for internal fittings.

Wood Fiberboard: Best feature about this is it has no grain direction. Easy to install and act as thermal insulation.

So, use materials as per your desire, site requirement and keeping material properties in mind. As an architect we can say that design matters and so is the material that we select for our designs. So choose wisely and create best out of better.
